BC Youth Week is just around the corner, a time for us to come together and celebrate the vibrant youth in our communities. From May 1-7, a multitude of events will be held across the province, designed to unite youth and their communities. One such event is the Skate Jam, a free and inclusive gathering at Downtown Skate Plaza, hosted by The Roundhouse Youth Coalition in partnership with the Vancouver Skate Coalition.
Skate Jam is open to all levels of skateboarding. It will be held on Saturday, May 4, from 1-4 pm, and is available for ages 10-18 to participate. If you’d like to join, go to our website to register.
Another exciting event is a performance produced by Some Assembly Theatre called I Know Your Secret, a partnership between the Vancouver Park Board and the Roundhouse Youth Theatre Action Group Project. It’s a psychological thriller exploring social influence and social media’s dangers. I Know Your Secret is a unique collaboration between theatre professionals and a team of creative youth. It revolves around seven characters who arrive at Andy’s home after only knowing him online. Created and directed by artist-in-residence Valerie Methot with a creative team of diverse youth and artists, I Know Your Secret is a product of our time with the deeply entrenched integration of social media. This free event will take place on May 3 and 4, and you can purchase through Eventbrite.
The Roundhouse is proud to host Building a Better Tomorrow Through Art, a platform for talented youth visual artists. This gallery exhibition, created by youth ages 13–19 from the Burnaby North Secondary Access program in collaboration with Vancouver, Burnaby, and New Westminster schools, is a testament to their creativity and passion.
The exhibition features diverse art forms, including stunning collages, paintings, sculptures, and other design elements that reflect the young artists’ personal experiences and aspirations. This event is free to attend, and visitors can experience the exhibition at the Exhibition Hall from May 1-7.
