The Roundhouse is excited to announce Sarah Ronald and Katherine Soucie as our 2019 Artists in Residence! From June to August, both Sarah and Katherine are facilitating art-based workshops and pop-ups for the Roundhouse community.

Sarah Ronald grew up in Summerland and, after receiving her Bachelor of Fine Art degree from Okanagan University in Kelowna, moved to the West Coast. She has diverse experience working with the public throughout the Lower Mainland and is excited to explore art-making with the Roundhouse community.

Sarah is exploring ideas around how we see ourselves as individuals and how we connect as part of a community. You can follow Sarah on instagram @sarahronaldair and find her at the Roundhouse on:

Thursday, June 27, 1-3pm
Friday, July 12, 9:30-11:30am
Saturday, July 27, 11am-1pm
Wednesday, August 14, 3-5pm

Katherine Soucie is an artist and designer who transforms textile industry waste into new textiles, clothing, and sculptural forms. She studied Fashion Design in Toronto before furthering her studies in Textiles and Visual Art in Vancouver. Since 2003, her experimentation with textile industry waste, specifically hosiery, has resulted in an extensive body of work for which she has received numerous scholarships, grants, and awards. Labour, history, craft, and technology continue to inform her research and her ongoing transformation of textile waste as a material resource.

Her (a)Mend project is a free explorative workshop series that encourages participants to explore design, craft, and material activism, building in the co-creation of new sculptural work, to be exhibited at the Roundhouse. While registration for this workshop series is now full, there are pop-up events at the Roundhouse on:

Friday, June 14, 12-2pm
Friday, July 12, 12-2pm
Friday, August 9, 12-2pm

Funded by the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation, the Artists’ Residency program is an important part of the Roundhouse’s commitment to community cultural development. Professional artists create collaborative projects with community members that unfold over time through workshops, drop-in programs, discussions, rehearsal, and productions. Residency projects are about building creative community; they promote diversity, interdisciplinary activity, innovation collaboration, and involvement.
