One of the many initiatives that The Roundhouse brings to the community is providing creative programs to Youth. The Roundhouse has hosted many programs over the years, including this past spring with our Enduring Threads and Featuring Youth programs. These programs offer a fantastic opportunity to work with creative professionals and hone their artistic skill set.
Featuring Youth, samchimes.com/featuringyouth is a music production program led by Sam Chimes, a professional musician who incorporates live Jazz and improvisational elements into his upbeat style of Hip-Hop. This program takes place on Saturday afternoons at The Roundhouse. Drop-ins are available for $5/session. Youth learn to live looping, music production, DJing, and stage presence. The program culminates with a public showcase to industry professionals on July 26 at 2pm on the Turntable.

This past April, Artist Karen Thảo La invited Youth to learn how cultures across the globe use textiles as an expression of identity and a form of resistance in the program Enduring Threads. This mini-residency, led by artist Karen Thảo La, involves participants in a conception-to-completion process, asking them to challenge preconceived notions of what creativity is and how material choices carry meaning as they learn to transfer intent into visual expression. The final works were showcased during Youth Week in our Exhibition Hall; for more details about this program, visit karenthaonguyenla.com/enduring-threads.
