You might not know it but the Roundhouse has been waiting for this day for quite awhile. Our Heating, Ventilation, and Air Condition (HVAC) system has been a workhorse for the last 25 years, but it’s definitely showing its age, and parts of it need to be replaced. From late May to August, Scott Special Projects, contracted by the City of Vancouver, will be onsite at various times removing the old units, preparing the roof for the new ones, and then installing the new units.
Workers have already been on the roof, detaching the old units in preparation for removal. On Monday, June 6, those units will be lifted down from the roof by crane. For our Roundhouse neighbours, this means you should expect a large crane, work vehicles, road closures, and limited access to the Turntable Plaza. We won’t blame you if you haul out your camera to snap a few shots! Feel free to upload to our Google images page (Google the Roundhouse and click ‘Add photos’.
- Davie St, from Pacific Blvd to the traffic circle will be closed from 7am-7pm (you’ll still be able to drive on Marinaside Cres. through the traffic circle).
- The alley from the Turntable Plaza heading toward Elsie Roy Elementary School will be closed to foot traffic temporarily when the units above the Pottery Studio are removed.
Thank you for your patience as we start this much needed upgrade to our HVAC system. For the official notice about this portion of the project, you can download the Notice of Construction PDF. For any questions or inquiries about the project, please contact Jason McEwan, Assistant Project Manager .
