Creative Remix Arts Camp

Yaimel López Zaldívar is a Cuban-born, Vancouver-based multimedia artist whose vibrant and deeply human work spans illustration, painting, screen printing, mixed media, animation, and graphic design. With a creative practice rooted in storytelling and cultural expression, Zaldivar captures the essence of diverse communities through a bold use of color and a distinct visual language that resonates across cultures. 

Zaldívar has exhibited widely, with solo and group shows in the United States, Cuba, New Zealand, and Canada including the Vancouver Art Gallery and Seymour Art Gallery. His artwork has been featured in numerous publications and continues to garner attention for its emotional depth and visual impact. A dedicated educator and community collaborator, Zaldivar has partnered with various organizations to bring art into accessible and meaningful contexts. Through all his mediums, Yaimel Lopez Zaldivar remains committed to reflecting the shared human experience—complex, vibrant, and ever-evolving.

Sophia Laurio (professionally known as Sophia Sosa) is a Filipina multidisciplinary artist creating on the unceded lands of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations, in what is now known as Vancouver, Canada. A versatile movement artist rooted in Street styles and movement improvisation, her practice operates at the intersection of rhythm, intuition, and identity.

Recognized for her eclectic style and fashion-forward sensibility, Sophia integrates dance and music to develop a distinct and evolving artistic voice. Her work bridges disciplines and communities through an interdisciplinary and collaborative approach.

Through performance and creative research, she challenges conventional boundaries while centering diversity, unity, and cultural dialogue. Her practice creates space — honoring lineage while actively shaping contemporary expression.

Tara Travis 
Tara is an actor, writer, and puppeteer known for her dynamic solo work, physical shape-shifting, and vocal versatility. Over her career, she has co-created and performed in more than 30 original plays, most recently the Sterling Award-winning dark comedy The Spinsters. Her solo works with Monster Theatre include Erika the Red, Who Killed Gertrude Crump? (four Jessie Richardson Theatre Award nominations, including Best Actor, Female), and the multi-award-winning Til Death: The Six Wives of Henry VIII. 

A co-founder of the Vancouver International Puppet Festival, Tara regularly incorporates animated object, hand-and-rod, and shadow puppetry into her work. Recent puppetry credits include Me & The Forest (Boca del Lupo) and Somebody Loves You, Mr. Hatch (Axis Theatre).

She is also a voice and film actor, with credits spanning theatrical podcasts, audiobooks, commercials, feature films and children’s media. Tara lives and creates on the unceded lands of the Coast Salish Peoples.
